# Data Cabling in Felixstowe (IP11)

Structured cabling is a tested, labelled and documented installation, not a cable pulled through a wall. Survey and design come first: where the cabinet sits, how many outlets per position, the containment route. First fix pulls solid-core cable to every outlet before the ceilings close. Second fix terminates into RJ45 modules at the outlet and a patch panel at the cabinet.

- The permanent link limit is 90 m and the channel limit 100 m including patch leads. We keep horizontal runs under about 70 m so there is room to re-route later.

- Bend radius of 8 times the cable diameter once installed, and no more than 13 mm of pair untwisted at the connector. An over-tightened cable tie fails a test as readily as a bad termination.

- Data is Band I and mains is Band II, so Section 528 of BS 7671 governs the separation. The 2026 amendment adds a section for Power over Ethernet and one for functional earthing of ICT equipment.

You get per-link test results from a calibrated tester, its calibration certificate, a labelling schedule matching each outlet to its panel port, and as-built drawings.

Standard callout is £120 + VAT, Mon-Fri 8am-6pm, first hour of labour included. After hours is £180 + VAT, first hour included.
