Electrical Contractors in NR2

An electrician is a trade. An electrical contractor is the business that holds the contract, carries the insurance, produces the paperwork and takes the programme risk. Same hands on the tools, different question being asked.

Contract work runs differently from a callout. It is priced from drawings and a specification rather than a description over the phone. First fix has to land in step with the carpenter and the plasterer, second fix after decoration. Risk assessments and method statements go in before anyone sets foot on site. At the end the client gets Electrical Installation Certificates, schedules of test results and circuit charts for the compliance file, which is the part most often missing when we pick up someone else's installation.

Under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, where a principal contractor is appointed we work to their construction phase plan. Where we are the only contractor on the job, that plan is ours to write, and HSE expects it to be proportionate to the size and scale of the work.
