Doorbell Install in NR33

A wireless battery chime needs no electrician. Buy one, screw the push to the frame, pair the chime. Where we come in is wired bells and wired video doorbells.

A traditional wired bell runs from a bell transformer, typically 8 V or 12 V AC to BS EN 61558-2-8, fed from a fused spur or mounted on DIN rail beside the consumer unit. Bell wire then runs out to the push and back to the chime. A wired video doorbell asks for more: Ring specifies 8 to 24 V AC at 10 to 40 VA, so an old 8 V 1 A bell transformer often will not carry it. That is the usual reason a camera works for a few days and then drops offline.

The awkward parts are rarely electrical. UPVC frames with no cavity to run a cable. Existing bell wire too thin for the voltage the camera needs. A bell hole at the wrong height for a camera, which wants to sit around 1.2 m rather than looking at the doormat. The low-voltage side sits outside Part P. A spur for the transformer is not notifiable. A new circuit for it is.
