An emergency call is triage and make safe before it is repair. First question on the phone: is the whole street dark? If your neighbours have no power either, it is a network fault. Call 105 free of charge and UK Power Networks will deal with it. The service cable, cut-out, supplier fuse and meter belong to them. From the meter tails onwards the installation is yours, and that is where we start.

On site we isolate, prove dead, then split the fault down. A tripping RCD is usually reporting an earth fault rather than failing itself. Circuits go off, come back one at a time, and insulation resistance testing finds the damaged cable or the appliance behind it.

Sometimes the honest outcome at 11pm is one circuit isolated and locked off, a warning label fitted, everything else back on, and a return visit once the part is available. Callout is £120 + VAT Mon-Fri 8am-6pm and £180 + VAT after hours, first hour of labour included. Price confirmed on the phone before we come out.
