An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is a report on the condition of an existing installation. It is not a certificate and there is no pass mark. We agree the extent and any limitations with you before we start, then inspect the intake position, the earthing arrangement and the consumer unit (fuse box), plus a sample of accessories.
Then it gets tested. The dead tests need the power off: continuity of protective conductors, ring final circuit continuity, insulation resistance and polarity. Live testing covers earth fault loop impedance and RCD trip times.
Everything we find is written down and coded against the edition of BS 7671 current on the day of the inspection:
- C1 danger present, immediate remedial action required. You are told at the time we find it, not when the report lands.
- C2 potentially dangerous, urgent remedial action required.
- C3 improvement recommended.
- FI further investigation advised.
One C1 or C2 makes the overall outcome unsatisfactory. C3s on their own do not.
